The opening of the Midwest branch of credit card processing company MerchantPro Express (MPX) in Chicago has been an exciting expansion characterized by significant growth and success. None of this would have been possible, however, without the extraordinary talents and partnership of Managing Directors Mark Telander and Tim Doyle.
Mark and Tim's teamwork has been instrumental to the branch's achievements throughout the past year—the fruits of a longstanding collaboration built on mutual respect, admiration, and trust.
The two met more than a decade ago, playing basketball. Both had played in college, Mark at St. Xavier and Tim at Northwestern, and continued to play recreationally even after they completed their educations. They developed a strong friendship in the subsequent years, and, when Mark sought a career change from the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT)—one of the largest commodities exchanges in the world—Tim enthusiastically recommended he get in touch with his brother Joe, Partner at MPX and head of a business unit comprised of 15 full time sales agents and more than 250 referral partners.
Tim knew Mark’s strong work ethic and trustworthiness, which had brought him much success at the CBOT, would resonate with Joe, and make him an excellent addition to the MPX team. Joe Doyle couldn't have agreed more.
So in 2016, Mark Telander was made a Managing Director of the Midwest branch. By 2017, Tim Doyle was also ready to transition from his career as a sports broadcaster for networks including CBS, ESPN, Big Ten Network, and Stadium to the credit processing industry. His signature on-air charm, assertiveness and large network in both New York and Chicago, where he's lived for the past 15 years, made him an excellent asset alongside Mark in Chicago, as the branch's second Managing Director.
Since then, the two have been working full time and in tandem to build a network of revenue- and lead-sharing referral partners, introduce even more merchants to the remarkable services MPX provides, and strengthen the company’s presence across the Midwest.
They've accomplished much, and that’s not likely to change any time soon.
Especially when Mark and Tim have the support of Joe Doyle, who has over 20 years of industry experience, and shares his insights with the two during their daily calls and weekly training seminars.
To top off this formula for success, Mark and Tim are a natural team. On the basketball court, where they became friends so many years ago, they complemented each other’s skills to form a competitive duo. Tim’s strength was passing and positioning. Mark’s was taking the shot. Together, they were a force to be reckoned with.
Now, they’ve brought that same winning dynamic off-court, to how they approach new business opportunities. Tim, more outspoken, attracts potential business to the table with his charisma and energy, then passes off the conversation to Mark, who utilizes his unrivaled knowledge of MPX’s offerings and the industry to consistently close the deal.
They both impress upon everyone they meet the foundation of their business plan: being upfront, honest, and accessible. Clients can depend on being able to reach Mark and Tim directly and have them answer all of their questions quickly and truthfully, even after the deal has been made.
These three pillars have always been central to the MerchantPro Express culture, which is determined to inject such values into everything that the company does. They're especially important to Mark and Tim, who have both utilized their extensive professional networks to develop their branch.
When the prospect sitting across from them is there because of their sterling reputation, maintaining that caliber of trust is critical to success.
Doing so isn't so difficult when their sales confidence flows directly from the devout conviction that MPX is the best merchant services provider in the industry. It doesn't take very long for prospects to recognize this, too.
