Chris Briller, president and CEO of credit card processing company MerchantPro Express (MPX), was recently recognized by NYIT Magazine, a publication of the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), his alma mater. The magazine’s recent 'Alumni Spotlight' highlighted his continued contributions to the school, and shared some of his key insights to students.
While at NYIT, Chris was a star baseball player and the first in its history to be named MVP two years in a row. Among other extraordinary stats, he batted .346 with four home runs and 28 RBIs in 156 at-bats in his junior year, with an astounding 15 multi-hit games. Chris led his team the following year, boasting four homers and 28 RBIs in 156 at-bats, and an incredible .408 average! He went on to play three seasons in the independent Frontier and Northern leagues before retiring from the game in 1999, entering the merchant services industry, and eventually founding MPX.

This is not the first time Chris has been recognized by his beloved alma mater, either. In July 2017, the 1997 graduate was inducted into the NYIT Athletics Hall of Fame, where his name will live on forever alongside other NYIT baseball greats, such as Ray Giannelli, who played for Major League Baseball's Toronto Blue Jays and St. Louis Cardinals, and Chicago White Socks pitching coach Don Cooper.
Chris' lasting impact on the school also extends beyond the baseball diamond. In May 2018, he returned to the campus, not only to provide internship opportunities to students, but to speak with NYIT student athletes and lend guidance about life after NYIT.
“It’s important for graduating students to take hold of an opportunity and be committed to that opportunity—fully commit to it,” he says. “From there, you can find something satisfying and you can be successful.”
